Student Spotlight

Reuben Heine received his degree in Environmental Resources & Policy in 2005 upon completion of his dissertation on "The Use of Position Ratio for Estimation of Tributary Incision Caused by Base-Level Drop, Middle Missouri River, USA." This dissertation uses the map algebra technique in GIS and applied it to an important problem in hydrology and geomorphology. The dissertation builds upon his masters thesis in Geography at SIU. A paper from that thesis was published in the prestigious Annals of the Association of American Geographers and this, along with other research projects he has published in good journals, earned Reuben SIU's Graduate Research Award in 2005 as well as a U.S. patent. Choosing among three offers for tenure-track positions, Reuben is now teaching Geography at Augustana College, a high-quality liberal arts college in Rock Island, IL with his wife Sally and, anytime now, their first child.
